Hygge at Absalon
Hygge at Absalon showcases a chapter in a book about the flavors of Copenhagen. For this project I approached flavor as a wholistic experience with influence coming from the people I was able to speak with, the taste of the food, the colors on the walls and the aroma in the air. Flavor in this chapter is not simply described by the food I ate but rather how the experience contributed to the overall flavor of the evening. The section is written in the style of a story. I chose to highlight the wild and jumbled experience by creating photo mosaics to accompany the text. These photo mosaics give the reader the ability to see a larger view of the evening outside of simple text and embrace the senses that the evening provoked.
The photo mosaics showcase a depiction of the surroundings, environment and flavor of the event while leaving room for the mind to create its own story behind the content being displayed.
Photo mosaics involving people intend to highlight the senses being invoked by the flavor of the experience. At Absalon most senses were involved with creating the flavor of the atmosphere. The people present, the colors seen, the sells of home and the taste of the warm meal. For these mosaics I was inspired by David Hockney’s photo portraits. His work created emotion and feeling within a portrait and with these I strived to focus attention on the senses evoked on the evening at Absalon.
